450 engineers out of 900 will move to Warren in order to support the engineering of the Delta platform - the small Saturn cars will be part of.

When the project started, the design and engineering team belonged to General Motors. But when going into mass production about 900 engineers were transferred to Tennessee.

By August 1998 the decission was made to move 450 of the 900 engineers to Warren, MI. They will then report to Mark Hogan, GM vice president for NAO small car divison.

As part of GM´s platform strategy, the returning engineers will engineer parts for Saturn, Chevrolet and other small cars. The new midsize Saturn, which is expected to go into production mid 1999 in Wilmington will be designed together with Opel, Germany.

Responsibility for the next generation Saturn and Chevrolet Cavalier is with Opel. They are based on the so-called Delta-platform. This platform should count for about one third of GM´s production about 2.5 Mill. cars p.a.
