Saab, 50% owned by General Motors and bought for $ 1 Bill. 1990, is still making losses.

  • 1997 losses were at SKr 1.9 Bill. ($ 270 Mill.)

  • 1998 first 6 months losses added up to SKr 978 Mill. ($ 140 Mill.)

Future plans are ambiguous. The sales programme foresees an increase of 20% p.a.

The driver should be the new Saab 9-5 saloon, which was developed at a cost of $ 692 Mill. and which is strongly targeted to the US market. In total Saab will concentrate its sales efforts to its 8 key markets US, UK, Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, Australia and Japan.
