The year 2000 was positive for SEAT. Wholesales exceeded 613,000 units, with a turnover of 1,056,798 million pesetas for the company. The Martorell plant manufactured more than 516,000 units, up 6.1% from 1999, while SEAT brand vehicles manufactured at this Barcelona plant and at other Volkswagen Group plants increased by 1.3%,reaching 523,750 units. At year-end, the workforce was 15,003 people, a 4.8%increase, while productivity continued its ascending rhythm. Throughout the year 2000, SEAT obtained a profit of 14,534 million pesetas, up 2.3% from 1999.It is a v ry positive result considering the company ’s significant r sources assigned to Research and Development (R+D) for the development and launching of new vehicles. During the year 2000,the SEAT brand product range was expanded with the presentation of new models and engines. In February ,the Salsa, a spectacular concept car entirely developed at the Martorell Technical Center, was presented at the International Automobile Show in Geneva. The new Alhambra was presented in May at the Madrid and Lisbon Motorshows. The new Arosa was presented four months later at the Paris Motorshow and, with it, SEAT closed a total renovation cycle of the entire range. At this show, the León Cupra with 204 HP and the new TDi engine with 150 HP for the Toledo and León ranges w r presented. Furthermore, after the success of the Salsa,its new evolution, the Salsa emoción was presented, a concept car capable of modifying dynamics. source : Seat
