Vehicle Sales in November Ford Motor Company's November U.S. sales down 7% DEARBORN, MI - U.S. consumers purchased or leased 300,665 cars and trucks from Ford, Mercury, Lincoln, Jaguar, Volvo, and Land Rover dealers in the month of November, down seven percent from a year ago. (For reference, last year, the company posted its highest November sales since 1977.) Sales of passenger cars totaled 111,086, down 16 percent from a year ago. Truck sales totaled 189,579, down one percent from a year ago. Calendar year-to-date, Ford Motor Company's car and truck sales totaled 3.93 million, up two percent from the same period a year ago. Highlights for the month included: Ford dealers reported combined car and truck sales of 250,664, enabling Ford Division to eclipse three million sales in a calendar year for the seventh year in a row. Almost 3.25 million U.S. customers have taken delivery of a new Ford car or truck in 2000. Ford Focus sales were 20,900, up 34 percent from a year ago. Ford Escape sales were 13,000, the highest monthly sales so far. In November, Ford Outfitters reported record sales of "No Boundaries" sport utility vehicles as combined sales of the Ford Explorer, Expedition, Excursion, and Escape totaled 68,173. Ford Motor Company also announced that it plans to produce 1,072,000 vehicles (367,000 cars and 705,000 trucks) in North America in the fourth quarter -- a reduction of 38,000 vehicles (19,000 cars and 19,000 trucks) from the plan it announced a month ago. In the fourth quarter of 1999, the company produced 1,149,000 vehicles (427,000 cars and 722,000 trucks). Jaguar unwraps a record month MAHWAH, N.J. - Jaguar North America announces record November sales, totaling 3,628 cars sold. Jaguar’s year-to-date sales totaled 39,493 cars, up 31 percent from the same period last year. Jaguar XJ sedans sold totaled 1,197 cars in November, an increase of 20 percent from the same period last year. Monthly XK series sales totaled 754 cars, up 16 percent from the same period last year, and Jaguar S-TYPE sales totaled 1,677 cars. Year-to-date S-TYPE sales increased nearly 75 percent compared with the same period last year, for a total of 22,112 cars sold. Jaguar Canada reported year-to-date sales increased 41 percent compared with the same period last year, for a total of 2,163 cars sold. GM Vehicle Sales Decrease 8% In November
DETROIT - General Motors sold 320,992 new cars and trucks in November, down eight percent from last year. GM truck sales decreased eight percent to 163,214 units from November 1999 - the best November in history for GM truck sales -- and car sales abated nine percent to 157,778 units. An important element of GM's performance remains in growing sales in the truck market and the corporation is on track to set an all-time record for truck sales this calendar year. Consumer demand for GM full-size utilities was evident in November as sales climbed 20 percent from the year-ago month. CYTD sales also remain strong for the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL. CYTD sales for GM's entire utility lineup rose 10 percent. Full-size van sales also performed well CYTD, with sales rising 11 percent for the period. DaimlerChrysler Corporation Announces November Sales & December Production Schedule Auburn Hills, Mich. - DaimlerChrysler Corporation reported November U.S. sales of 184,000 vehicles, down 5-percent compared to November 1999. Sport Utility Vehicle sales of 64,000 units were up 4-percent, truck sales of 138,000 units dropped slightly to 2-percent, car sales of 47,000 dipped 13-percent, and minivan sales of 29,000 dropped 15-percent. Toyota Reports Strong November Sales Torrance, Ca - Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., reported strong November sales of 126,013 vehicles, up 4.6 percent over last November's record-setting sales. Calendar-year-to-date sales totaled 1,485,213, an increase of 9.3 percent over the same period last year. Both TMS sales divisions broke November sales marks set last year. Toyota Division recorded sales of 108,136 units, up 2.9 percent. The Lexus Division reported increased sales of 17,877 units, up 16.5 percent over the same period last year. Toyota Division light truck sales rose 18.3 percent, to 46,947 units, for a best-ever November. Sales were led by the restyled Tacoma compact pickup, with an impressive 12,537 units sold, an increase of 24.5 percent over last November. The Tundra full-size pickup enjoyed a best-ever November, with 7,290 units sold, an increase of 9.0 percent. The redesigned RAV4 compact SUV also saw a best-ever November, with 7,316 units sold, an increase of 109.6 percent. The all-new, EPA-certified ULEV Sequoia full-size SUV enjoyed a strong introductory month, with 5,025 units sold. The Lexus Division's record-setting November was due to the recent introduction of two redesigned vehicles. The completely redesigned LS 430 flagship posted sales of 2,546 units, a tremendous increase of 235.9 percent over last November. The GS 430 enjoyed a strong November with 548 units sold, an increase of 51.8 percent. The all-new IS 300 sport sedan saw hearty sales of 1,950 units. The popular RX 300 continues its steady sales pace with 7,297 units sold, an increase of 5.3 percent over last November. Sales of North American-built vehicles made up 62.0 percent of total November sales. American Honda Sales Set November Record TORRANCE, Calif. - American Honda Motor Co., Inc., set a new November sales record of 80,849, up 3.5 percent, as light truck sales also set a record for the month, up 9 percent to 21,567. Acura Division sales of 12,902 jumped 44.6 percent from last year on the strength of the all-new MDX luxury sport utility vehicle and topped the previous Acura record for the month set in 1991. Honda Odyssey sales also set a November sales record at 9,737, up 2.3 percent. Honda Civic sales were up 4.5 percent to 21,074 as availability of the all-new model began to improve. "Our record sales month was more an indication of strong demand for some hot products that we're fortunate to have, than the overall strength of the market," said Dick Colliver, American Honda executive vice president. "The overall market has slipped into neutral and there is not a lot of forward motion right now." Year-to-date American Honda sales of 1,070,825 are running 8 percent ahead of last year's all-time record pace. (December 1, 2000)
