Skoda : Production & Sales Figures The record-breaking 3,000,000 Škodas manufactured since 1991
Since 1991 when the traditional Czech brand merged with Volkswagen Group, Škoda Auto has produced as much as 3,000,000 cars. The jubilee three-millionth car that came down the line in a modern factory at Mladá Boleslav today (on 20 June) is a silver Octavia Elegance saloon powered by a 1.8 Turbo petrol engine producing 110 kW. The car had been ordered by a customer from the Czech Republic.
At a ceremonial meeting of the Škoda Auto management and employees around the jubilee car, Škoda Auto Chairman of the Board of Directors Vratislav Kulhánek, Ing., highlighted a dynamic development of the Škoda motor company due to integration into Volkswagen Group, a strong strategic partner. "The modern organizational and manufacturing technologies applied quickly thanks to Czech engineers' and technicians' top-level skill have contributed to restoration of Škoda brand reputation. Instead of the one-time 170,000 cars, nowadays we sell 2.5-times more cars annually with growing tendency. The Fabia and Octavia models are available in dozens of powerplant, colour and equipment versions, and belong to the most up-to-date cars in their classes. That is why we export 82% of our production to almost 70 countries," said the Škoda Auto boss. In the context of the situation in the world markets and in the light of the anticipated integration of the Czech Republic into the European Union Vratislav Kulhánek drew attention to the need for further rise in Škoda Auto's competition ability through maximum reengineering. "Our company's economic results and profitability must improve immensely," said the Mladá Boleslav-based firm's boss adding that this is not only a task set by the shareholder but also a precondition for ensuring further good prospects for the car maker and its employees. Pavel Radda, Škoda Auto Car Production Chief, spoken highly of the car maker employees' work, primarily of the whole Škoda team's approach to the issue of quality. "Top-quality of our Škoda cars utilizing high technologies combined with a high level of utility value for a reasonable price has resulted from a high degree of working responsibility, motivation and pride of all employee of the enterprise in the Škoda brand." Nevertheless, the production chief stressed the need for further cost savings and advance in the labour productivity.
