. Travel & Golf Recommendations Spier Estate and Kleine Zalze Golf Course
The Spier Estate, located in the wine lands close to Stellenbosch, has become a famous landmark not only by its 4 star rated accommodation and the estate wine but also because of the Spier Arts Summer Festival and also for its Environmental and Social Programs. Many visitors to Spier enjoy playing golf at De Zalze Golf Course, a 18-hole-championship golf course, designed by Peter Matkovich who developed also the famous Arabella golf course near Hermanus.
The Spier Estate dates back into the 17th century, when the farm was granted to a German settler in 1692 who sold it in 1712 to anther German fellow who named the farm after his hometown, Speyer. But the younger history of Spier starts when in 1193 it was bought by Dick Enthoven, a South African businessman. The gracious Cape Dutch buildings has been restored to their former glory and together with the new scenic surroundings they create the unique environment of the estate, a great place for the meeting of people, multiple cultures traditions and histories. |
