Presidio Opens 2003
Season with Great Course Conditions: 108-year-old course boasts best
playing conditions in long history.
Touting lush
fairways, mature bentgrass greens, and well-defined rough, the
Presidio Golf Course opened the 2003 Golf Season with some of
the best spring course conditions in years.

“The course
has never been in better shape this early in the season” said
Josh Heersink, Superintendent for the Presidio. “We are beginning
to see the benefits of our long term improvement projects like
our resurfaced greens, and fairway aerification project and
overseeding program. These projects combined with good winter
weather have brought about major changes in course appearance
and playability.”
Course Layout of the 108-year-old course
Hand in hand with long-term
improvement projects is an industry level commitment to environmentally
sound maintenance practices shared by Superintendent Heersink, Arnold
Palmer Golf Management and the Presidio Trust. The Presidio Golf Course
has introduced an Integrated Pest Management Plan based on an ecosystem
strategy that focuses on the long term prevention of pests through a
combination of techniques such as the use of a pest’s natural enemy,
habitat manipulation, modified maintenance practices and the use of
low-risk chemical controls when other controls are ineffective.
The driving
range

The driving range is located just aside of the
first hole. Plenty of boxes makes it easy to find a free spot.
You play downhill, which makes it sometimes difficult to adjust
your swing.
Hole #1

Hole 1 you start downhill, same as the driving
range, which you see on the right. If you slice to the right,
you might get into trouble identifying your ball among all the
driving range balls, which went over the fence. Target to the
left for your attack to the green with the second shot.
Hole #9

If you play it straight, No. 9 is easy. But be
aware of the bushes on the right and the woods on the left.
Once you placed your first shot well, the second and third will
be no issue.

The green of hole 9 is fairly big, some bunkers
protecting front left and right.
Hole #18

The 18 is a par 5. Right and left trees will
watch your accurate shots. Keep an eye on accuracy although
the fairway will tempt for some ambitious long shots. And we
all know, ambition on a golf course only deserves the pros.
