GM Announces Key Executive Appointment

DETROIT - General Motors Corp. announced the appointment of Edd G. Snyder to executive director, corporate communications.  

In this role, Snyder will be responsible for communications support for manufacturing, labor, financial, e-GM, international operations, Washington public policy, electronic media, legal, diversity, philanthropy, non-automotive operations, enterprise activities group, worldwide purchasing and human resources. Edd had been director, communications, labor, manufacturing and community relations since joining GM in 1999.  

Snyder, whose career spans more than 25 years of communications experience, handled labor communications during GM's latest labor negotiations with the United Auto Workers Union and at Ford Motor Co. in the 1980s. He developed communications plans for new service introductions including virtual reality, mobile satellite communications and Internet services as regional director, public relations at EDS Corp. He also worked for Shandwick USA, Toyota, American Motors, Upjohn and The Kalamazoo Gazette. He was also co-owner, president and general manager of a Toyota dealership in Delaware, Ohio.  

Snyder, a current member and past board member of the Detroit chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, received a BS degree in communications from Western Michigan University. He is a founding board member of the Automotive Press Association and serves on the boards of directors of several non-profit organizations: Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Michigan; The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW); and Covenant House Michigan. He was born June 1, 1947. He and his wife, Elena, and their son live in Ann Arbor. A married daughter resides in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  

Snyder replaces Tony Cervone, now vice-president of communications at DaimlerChrysler Corp.
