DETROIT - Chevrolet's full-size Express van is on a roll, gaining more market share than its competitors and introducing a new upscale model for 2001.

For the 2000 calendar year through September, Express gained 2.4 percentage points of market share compared with the market share losses of its non-General Motors competitors. Sales for the period were 89,838, a 10-percent increase from the year-ago period.

"Customers have been steadily streaming to the Chevy Express because it's the most recent all-new full-size van on the market," said Dave Kanous, Chevrolet commercial vans brand manager. Express also boasts the largest cargo capacity (316.8 cubic feet) of any full-size van. Its rear doors are especially convenient for use at loading docks because the doors are the only ones on the market with concealed hinges that open 165( without requiring the driver to disconnect pins or other hardware.

The Chevy Express is available in passenger, cargo, cutaway and conversion configurations -- plus the upscale Express LT passenger van, which is new for 2001. "Express LT really provides family travel with the comforts of home," Kanous said. "The LT has loads of family fun with two video monitors and a video cassette player so a video game can be played and a movie can be watched simultaneously."

Passengers can also listen to the 12-speaker, Bose premium sound system with its standard CD player and new radios. An in-dash, six-disc CD changer is optional.

Comfort is also an important part of the Express LT package. Luxurious seating allows passengers to recline or interchange the seven-passenger seating. Leather is optional. A front and rear climate control also keep passengers comfortable. What families can't fit in the industry's biggest van, they can haul behind it. The standard trailer hitch on Express can tow about 7,000 pounds. Chevrolet Express has a model for virtually any full-size van requirement.
