Paris,
France - Consolidated sales for the first half of 2000 totaled Euros
22,490 million, an increase of 18.2% from the Euros 19,020 million
reported in first-half 1999. At comparable scope of consolidation, the
increase amounted to 15.9%.
Automobile
Division sales rose 16.2% from the year-earlier period to Euros 19,172
million.
Worldwide
sales of Peugeot and Citroën passenger cars and CKD units increased
11.9% to 1,448,100 units during the period, with Peugeot sales up 11.3%
and Citroën sales up 12.7%. Interim sales volume was driven by the
continued success of the Peugeot 206 and the Citroën Xsara Picasso, as
well as by sustained market share gains in all the regions where Peugeot
and Citroën vehicles are sold.
In
western Europe, where the market expanded by 2.3%, registrations of
Group cars and light commercial vehicles rose by 12.8% to 1,240,300
units. The growth, which was the fastest of any leading carmaker in
Europe, raised PSA Peugeot Citroën's market share by more than a point
and confirmed its position as Europe's second largest automaker, with
13.4% of the car and commercial vehicle market, versus 12.2% at June 30,
1999. Outside western Europe, sales rose by 40.3% to 230,200 units,
thanks to growth in Group registrations in the Mercosur countries (up
12.5%), central Europe (up 50% including Turkey), China and Iran.
The
Automotive Equipment business increased sales by 33.2% to Euros 2,894
million in the first half, reflecting the December 1999 acquisition of
AP Automotive Holding Inc. Comparable sales were up 17.7%.
Sales
by the Transportation business rose 37.3% to Euros 1,159 million, taking
into account the acquisition of a controlling interest in KN Elan, the
German transportation and logistics subsidiary of Kühne & Nagel.
Comparable sales were up 20.8%.
Revenues
from the finance companies, which mainly consist of interest on the
financing of sales, increased by 14% to Euros 663 million. Banque PSA
Finance had total outstandings of Euros 13.6 billion at June 30, 2000,
up 12.4% from the year before.
Sales
by the other businesses rose 4% to Euros 477 million. Excluding the
first-half 1999 sales of SAMM and La Publicité Française, which were
sold in 1999, comparable sales were up 14.7%.
