GM Argentina Celebrates Production Of 100, 000th Vehicle

Rosario, Argentina - General Motors Argentina recently celebrated the production of the 100,000th vehicle by the Rosario Automotive Complex, a Chevrolet Corsa. This milestone caps three years of excellence in automotive manufacturing since the Rosario plant was inaugurated in late 1997.

The Rosario Automotive Complex produces the Corsa vehicle line including 3, 4, 5-door and station wagon models. The success of the Corsa vehicle, now the second best-selling car in Argentina, has helped position General Motors among the top players in the local automotive market. Recently, the Rosario plant began production of the Grand Vitara sport utility vehicle marketed under both the Chevrolet and Suzuki brands, as a result of a strategic partnership between GM Argentina and Suzuki Motors Corporation.

High quality levels reached through a combination of technological advancements and the contributions of a skilled workforce have enabled GM Argentina to reach new markets never before served by the Argentinean automotive industry. Among these are Italy, Mexico and Chile. Of the 100,000 vehicles produced to date, more than 50% have been exported. Only three years after General Motors reinstated manufacturing operations in Argentina, the company is already among the top exporters in the country.

The Rosario Automotive Complex's manufacturing model has served as a learning ground for GM Corporation in the development of a series of highly efficient plants recently inaugurated in various countries including Poland, Brazil and Thailand. The Rosario complex has earned ISO9001, ISO14001 and QS9001 certification.

GM Argentina is comprised of the Rosario Automotive Industrial Complex in Rosario, a service, parts and training operation in General Rodriguez and administrative offices in Buenos Aires. It produces and markets both domestic and imported vehicles under the Chevrolet brand, as well as supports alliance partner Suzuki Motors Corporation in the production of Grand Vitara SUVs sold under both brand names.
