| DETROIT - Delphi Automotive Systems announced that Delphi and
Hyundai Motor Corp. have signed three technology development agreements. The announcement
was made by James A. Maniscalco, general director of engineering, Delphi Interior Systems,
a division of Delphi Automotive Systems. "Innovation is a key factor for automakers
in attracting final consumers and gaining advantage over the competition," said
Maniscalco. "These agreements will allow Hyundai and Delphi to conduct extensive and
proprietary research on innovative projects in several product areas, including modular
cockpits, advanced airbag systems, and specialty power products."
The agreements establish a framework that will allow better anticipation of and
reaction to market demand in product portfolio development and vehicle design concepts.
"The modular cockpit agreement is an opportunity for Delphi to demonstrate its
instrument panel structure and cockpit technologies and to work cooperatively with Hyundai
in developing concepts for future vehicle applications," said Timothy Hamashuk,
product line director, interior systems, Delphi Automotive Systems.
"Through the cockpit development contract, Delphi will also increase its knowledge
of integrated systems within a global vehicle application. What we learn will help Delphi
to become a more flexible supplier." Under the agreements, Hyundai will be able to
leverage Delphi's advanced development and test capabilities in interior systems, occupant
protection systems and power products to create unique concepts for Hyundai customers.
