. Volkswagen establishes production company in Russia
Following the decision
regarding the location of a new plant in Russia, the Volkswagen
Group has now officially established a company in Russia responsible
for the project.
“OOO Volkswagen
Rus” was officially registered in the Russian business register
in Moscow. According to the entry in the register, the purpose of
the company is the production of vehicles in the Russian Federation.
The Group is to build a plant producing Volkswagen and Skoda brand
vehicles in the city of Kaluga 160 kilometers south west of Moscow.
The Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, Dr. Bernd
Pischetsrieder, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Skoda,
Detlef Wittig, signed the relevant contracts in Moscow at the end
of May. Volkswagen will be investing some 370 million euros in the
new company.
Friedrich
Lenz and Lutz Hafering have been appointed joint Managing
Directors of OOO Volkswagen Rus. Lenz has assumed the official
function of speaker for the management. The new company
is currently setting up its office in Kaluga, and will soon
be ready to begin conducting business.
Volkswagen
will create as many as 3,500 new jobs at the new site, with
some 3,000 employees being hired from the region of Kaluga.
Some 500 jobs will be advertised throughout Russia in order
to recruit highly-qualified specialists from all over the
country to work at the plant.

In a first step,
semi knocked-down Volkswagen and Skoda brand models are to be assembled
in Kaluga from the second half of 2007. At the same time, full production
facilities comprising body shop, paint shop and assembly lines will
be installed, with operation scheduled to commence in the first
half of 2009.
