Pontiac Grand Prix To Be Built In Oshawa

Oshawa, Ontario - General Motors of Canada will assemble the new 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix midsize car at the Oshawa Car Assembly Plant GM confirmed last week.

Michael Grimaldi, president of General Motors of Canada said, "In June 2000, we announced that the next generation Pontiac midsize car would be built in Oshawa. Since that time, the Oshawa Car Assembly Plants have set the standard for vehicle quality and productivity in this industry. Oshawa #2 won the Gold Plant Award in the 2002 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study and Oshawa #1 placed first in the 2002 Harbour Report as the most productive plant in North America. With achievements like this and Pontiac's performance heritage, the new Pontiac Grand Prix is destined for success."

Buzz Hargrove, President of the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) said, "This announcement is a clear statement that the workers have made an enormous commitment and contribution through their high quality, skilled labour and hard work to the success of this company."

GM of Canada has invested almost $300 million to bring the new Pontiac Grand Prix passenger car to its Oshawa Car Assembly Plant. Over the past five years, GM has invested more than $2 billion in Canada, building on its commitment to high-tech manufacturing and jobs in Canada The next generation 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix will be assembled at Oshawa Car Assembly Plant #2. The newest Grand Prix, which goes on sale in the spring of 2003, will take Wide Track handling and sporty performance to a higher level. The plant will continue to assemble the Buick Century and the Buick Regal. The Buick Century placed first in the 2002 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study for a premium midsize car.
