PSA Peugeot Citroën to Build New Transmission Production Unit at Valenciennes Plant PSA Peugeot Citroën has announced plans to build a new unit to produce electronically-controlled mechanical transmissions at its plant in Valenciennes, France, where 2,200 people are currently employed. The facility will be brought on stream in 2005. The project will cost a total of €430 million, including €290 million for capital expenditure, and create 200 direct jobs. The entirely new transmission is built on a six-speed mechanical base and can function in either manual or automatic mode. It features sophisticated electronic control of the clutch and gear shifting, and significantly improves vehicle performance and driveability while reducing fuel consumption. The new transmission will gradually be fitted on Peugeot and Citroën mid-range gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles. (June 26, 2002) [Homepage] [
