Porsche sets the course for growth in Asia

New showrooms opened in Thailand and Malaysia

Stuttgart - With the opening of the new Porsche centres in Thailand and Malaysia, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG has also set the course in these countries for a further increase in sales of the 911 and Boxster sports cars in Asia. The new showroom in the Thai capital Bangkok which is situated directly on the expressway between the city centre and airport, replaces the present showroom in the city. Besides the 320m2 showroom, the new centre has a workshop area with modern fittings. Porsche's importer in Thailand is AAS Auto Services who the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer has worked successfully with since 1993.

Also on the outskirts of the city Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, a new Porsche centre has been opened with adjoining workshop (300 m2 in total ). In addition to this, a new 420m2 showroom will be opened in the Autumn near to the famous Petronas Towers in the city centre. In the preliminary stages of this project, Porsche AG changed their contract partner. The company Jaseri Auto has been the new importer since June. Porsche has been selling sports cars in Malaysia since 1996.

In business year 2000/2001 which concludes on 31st July, Porsche expects sales of 40 or 30 sports cars in Thailand and Malaysia, despite extremely high import customs duties and taxes. The sales in both markets should be more than doubled in the next few years. Extremely good market prospects are also estimated in particular in Thailand and Malaysia for the sporty cross-country vehicle Cayenne on sale from the second half on 2002, the third Porsche model range after the 911 and Boxster.
