Visteon
and Lucent Announce Agreement to Bring Bluetooth(TM) Technology into
Vehicles Detroit
- Visteon Corporation continues to partner with industry leaders by
announcing an early adopter agreement with Lucent Technologies
Microelectronics Group that will bring the Bluetooth(TM) wireless
technology into the automotive environment. "We
are thrilled to be working with Lucent, an industry leader in commercial
and automotive Bluetooth technology," said Jim Wynalek, vice
president and general manager of Visteon's Telematics/Multimedia business
system. "Visteon understands that as consumers spend more time in the
car, they want to stay connected to the world around them. The Bluetooth
wireless technology will allow consumers to stay connected -- both safely
and easily -- while keeping their eyes on the road and their hands on the
wheel." Bluetooth(TM)
wireless technology is a wireless communication that is becoming an
industry standard for data transfer and information sharing between a wide
array of personal electronics. The Visteon/Lucent collaboration will bring
this revolutionary technology into the vehicle environment by enabling
wireless, hands-free interaction with products such as beepers, cell
phones, and PDAs (personal digital assistants). In
the near future, Bluetooth technology will allow information to be to
shared with those devices located outside of the vehicle, such as those at
home or at the office. For example, data from a home computer can be
transmitted to a car parked in the garage. Information such as maps,
calendars, phone books and more, can be seamlessly shared between the
vehicle and other devices enabled with Bluetooth wireless technology in
the home. (October 16, 2000) [Homepage] [
