| DETROIT - Buick marked a strong 1999 sales performance
by announcing a $50,000 donation to the Tiger Woods Foundation. Buick signed a multi-year
sponsorship agreement with the golf superstar in mid-December. At the signing Buick
offered to donate $50 to the Tiger Woods Foundation for each Buick Century sold up to
$50,000 between then and the end of the year. Total Buick sales were up 12% in 1999
over the previous year. The Buick Century posted record sales of more than 101,000 units
up over 12.5% from 1998.
"We had very strong Century sales in December and we are very pleased to be able
to make the maximum donation to the Tiger Woods Foundation, which has done so much for
youth," said Anthony Derhake, brand manager of golf for Buick. "Tiger is a very
important part of our golf program and we look forward to providing additional support for
his foundation in the future."
Established in 1996, the Tiger Woods Foundation conducts golf clinics in major
metropolitan areas for young people historically denied access to the sport. The
Foundation also supports programs that promote educational achievement and job
opportunities for inner city and disadvantaged youth. (January 7, 2000) |
