Two world debuts - 3 series convertible and X5 3.0 i

The elegant new 3 Series convertible entering the market in April 2000 in the guise of the 323Ci with a 170 horsepower straight-six power unit and seat belts integrated in the front seats will be making its first public appearance in Detroit.

The second newcomer is the X5 3.0i featuring BMW's thoroughly revised 3.0-liter straight-six developing maximum output of 231 horsepower (European version). Maximum torque is 221 lb-ft.

The sporting 3 Series touring (or sport wagon, as it is called in the USA) is also making its US debut in Detroit. The car's most outstanding features are the variable luggage compartment, the separately opening rear window, and the flat loading floor.

Another first for the US public is the M3 Showcar offering a not-so-sneak preview of the M3 soon to come.

Further highlights are the Mini Classic now celebrating its 40th birthday as a genuine cult car also in the USA. The hydrogen-drive 750hL, finally, already demonstrates today what drive systems we will be using tomorrow.
