These two latest Mazda production vehicles offer new generation excitement to even more European customers looking for style, flexibility and responsive engines to suit their everyday needs.
Mazda5 - an insightful new dimension to Zoom-Zoom pleasure
Paris Motor Show is one of the most important dates in the motoring calendar and this year hosts the global launch of the all-new Mazda5 designed to deliver maximum comfort, functionality and driving pleasure.
The stylish exterior has harmonious proportions that convey a sense of utility and balance. Double sliding doors with 700mm of entry space open onto an interior with room for up to seven adults.
The interior has been designed around a central space, which allows occupants not only to ride in comfort, but also to interact easily with each other, making the new Mazda5 the ideal vehicle for travelling with family or friends. High levels of interior flexibility enhance this openly communicative environment.
The new Mazda5 has a unique six plus one solution which provides seating for seven to give innovative flexibility and a living space which combines storage and seating capacity with Karakuri type ingenuity.
The second row seats can be slide adjusted and reclined, and both second and third row seats can be folded down to form a large load area with a virtually-flat floor. There are numerous useful storage compartments too.
The Mazda5 is not only about interior comfort and flexibility: it adds high levels of Zoom Zoom driving enjoyment to the mix with an engine line up that features two derivatives of a newly-developed 2.0-litre common-rail turbo diesel engine with a catalytic diesel particulate filter and a new six-speed manual transmission.
The Mazda5 2.0-litre standard diesel power version produces 110ps, while the high power diesel version produces 143ps. This powertrain provides spirited performance and robust torque combined with refinement plus low fuel consumption and emissions.
Completing the list of Mazda5 powertrains are two four-cylinder MZR series petrol engines-a 1.8-litre with 115ps and a 2.0-litre producing 145ps of power-matched to a five speed manual transmission. Both deliver linear, lively performance with low fuel consumption and emissions.
Dynamic Mazda handling and steering are naturally part of the Mazda5 experience, with MacPherson struts in the front, a multi-link suspension in the rear, and electronic hydraulic power assisted steering (EHPAS) for excellent road feedback and response.
Mazda6 MPS-realising the ultimate Zoom-Zoom saloon
Sharing the stage with the Mazda5 at the 2004 Paris Motor Show is the exciting new flagship of the Mazda6 model range, the Mazda6 MPS, which includes features that make it one of the hottest and best driving saloons on the road.
Mazda6 MPS has a newly-developed direct-injection turbocharged 2.3-litre MZR petrol engine that produces a maximum of 260ps of power at 6,000rpm for exhilarating performance, maximum torque of 380Nm at just 3,000rpm, and outstanding acceleration and control throughout the power range.
A new six-speed manual transmission has been designed to get the most out of the engine's performance while this new powertrain is combined with an all-new Active Torque Split All Wheel Drive system for superior traction in all driving situations.
Body assemblies have been optimised for stiffness with suspension characteristics and brake performance upgraded to match the car's high power. These features not only make the new Mazda6 MPS the company's fastest saloon, but deliver an ideal balance between high performance fun and controlled handling.
The new Mazda6 MPS is not just an exhilarating car to drive, it is a great car to look at and ride in as well. On the outside it has a dynamic yet sophisticated appearance, while the cabin area seats five adults comfortably with materials and trim that give the interior a typical Mazda quality feel. Together, these features make the new Mazda6 MPS the ultimate expression of Zoom-Zoom driving excitement in a sophisticated saloon.
