BMW Group expands sales organisation further
Even closer to customers throughout Western Europe
Munich - As part of the
expansion of its international market presence, the BMW Group will now be
taking over direct market responsibility in Greece, Ireland, Denmark and
Luxembourg too. These Western European markets are currently served by
importers. In view of the market position that has been reached here and
the potential available, it seems reasonable for the company to take over
wholesale activities itself and thus to strengthen its relationship with
local dealers. Within the general framework for automobile sales in Europe
that has been created by the modified Block Exemption Regulation (BER),
the BMW Group will also be better able to achieve its objectives, in a way
that suits customers more, if it is present itself in these markets. This
strategy will be implemented in the four countries mentioned as from 1
October 2003, at the same time as the new Block Exemption Regulation comes
into force.

The presence of the BMW Group
in these markets means in practice that the company will be taking control
of functions such as price and product strategy, marketing, service and
the provision of an efficient trade organisation. This is already the case
today in most Western European countries and in 28 countries throughout
the globe. The contacts for the customers in question are the independent
local dealers through whom the majority of the vehicles produced by the
BMW Group are sold.
"The further expansion
of our European sales organisation is bringing us even closer to our
customers in the countries in question. The independent dealer remains the
central pillar of the BMW Group sales system here. Entrepreneurial drive
and proximity to customers - these are the formulae for success in all
markets", says Dr. Michael Ganal, Member of the Board of BMW AG
responsible for Sales and Marketing.
