Holden Monaro Receives Two Major Australian Design Awards
Accepting the awards, Holden's Director of Design, Mr Michael Simcoe, said the success of the Monaro project, which began as an after-hours labor of love, was due in large part to the passionate commitment of a design team determined to see it brought to life. "Of all the accolades that the Monaro has received, it is especially pleasing to receive these awards, because they constitute real recognition by our peers," he said. "While we have been fortunate enough to receive Australian Design Awards in previous years, we are particularly delighted that our work has, for the first time, also been rewarded with this acknowledgement from the Design Institute of Australia. "The original Monaro was the automotive icon of its era âˆ' and we'd like to think that this one is on its way to becoming a design industry benchmark as well," Mr Simcoe concluded. More than 500 intending buyers had placed firm orders for the new Holden Monaro sports coupe even before it made its debut at the Sydney Motor Show in October 2001, and demand remains high. With total sales of 1336 units recorded by the end of the 2002 first quarter, Monaro maintains a clear lead in the sports market segment. The Holden Monaro is available in two variants: CV6 and CV8, offering Generation III V8 and Supercharged V6 performance respectively. (April 18, 2002) [Homepage] [
