Ferrari : Ferrari 612 Scaglietti
Now, Luca di Montezemolo has felt the desire for another name to be linked to the conception of a new model: Sergio Scaglietti. Scaglietti was a master in working aluminium.
The model was built by Ferrari in the Scaglietti workshop dedicated to light alloy technology. The 612 Scaglietti´s innovative aluminium structure brings heightened levels of comfort, drivability, and provides the maximum crash protection for the occupants. A mid-front layout with the engine mounted behind the front axle and the gear box and the differential in unit at the rear ensure, that the center of gravity is kept as far back and as low as possible. The 12-cylinder 65° V-engine is the fruit of cutting edge Ferrari engine technology. The Detroit Motorshow, to be held in the US city from 4 January, has always been an important date for the House of Maranello as it marks the annual meeting with the American market. Ferrari´s participation in 2004, the sixteenth international motorshow, will be all the more significant as, for the first time in the history of Ferrari, a US setting has been chosen as the international launch for a new model, the 612 Scaglietti, named like the man responsible for creating some of the most beautiful vehicles in Maranello history. The date will be doubly important as 2004 marks fifty years of Ferrari activity in North America, still the biggest market for the Prancing Horse. Timed to coincide with the international launch at the Detroit Motorshow - where at 10.30 on 5 January the president of the Ferrari Maserati Group will present the new 2+2 - a 612 Scaglietti will be exhibited in the Galleria Ferrari at Maranello. Visitors will be able to admire the new 12-cylinder model, one entirely constructed in aluminium, the instant the vehicle is unveiled to the global press in Detroit. The 612 Scaglietti will remain on display for six months alongside the 2+2 Ferrari models from the past. Photo: Ferrari
