TROY, MICH. Saturn Corporation will offer a limited-edition, factory-built specialty
vehicle a yellow SC2 coupe on eBay as part of an auction to raiseproceeds
for the American Red Cross.
The specialty
coupe, based on the redesigned 2001 Saturn three-door coupe, will be limited to 99
numbered units in honor of the Group of 99, the General Motors and United Auto Workers
(UAW) leaders who created Saturn. Saturn will use this coupe to help determine customer
interest in future factory-built specialty vehicles. The remaining 98 specialty coupes in
the series will be available at Saturn retail facilities in the Houston and San Francisco
areas.
The online
auction, beginning June 21, gives eBay community members seven days to bid on two exciting
packages offered by Saturn. The first package consists of the special version of the
Saturn SC2 coupe and a trip for two to see the U.S. Olympic team compete in Sydney,
Australia. The second auction package highlights the Saturn Cycling Team and will appeal
to any cycling enthusiast.
"The American
Red Cross plays a critical role helping communities," said Jill Lajdziak, Saturn
vice-president of sales, service and marketing. "Saturn is pleased to help raise
funds for the American Red Cross as part of our ongoing commitment to give back to our
communities."
The benefit
auction also builds on the recently announced relationship that Saturn and Saturn
retailers have formed with eBay, to give used vehicle buyers and sellers greater trust in
the on-line trading process through retailer-based automotive inspections. "The
auction is another part of our effort to begin building relationships with eBays
online community," Lajdziak said.
The Saturn coupe
offered in the auction is a unique version of the worlds only three-door coupe. It
is one of only 99 cars built that feature a yellow exterior with a black roof, a unique
black-and-yellow leather interior and other interior accents, 15-inch chrome finish alloy
wheels and a certificate of authenticity.
The coupe is
loaded with popular options such as cruise control, power windows and mirrors, security
system, air conditioning, automatic transmission, AM - FM stereo with CD and cassette
player and a sunroof. The Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (M.S.R.P) for the
auction vehicle is $ 19,955 and includes a $440 transportation charge.
The trip for two
to the Olympics in Sydney includes: luxury accommodations on board the Norwegian Star for
seven days and six nights, two Olympic event tickets per day, access to "The
Millennium Marquee" tent within the Sydney Olympic Park and access to events and
parties with Olympians and sports and entertainment celebrities.
The second package
that will be auctioned consists of a custom-fit LeMond Road-Racing Bike, bicycling
care kit, heart rate monitor and cycling computer. In addition, the winning bidder can
cycle in style wearing an official racing uniform of the Saturn Cycling Team, including an
autographed cycling team jersey and Oakley glasses. Saturn is a sponsor to both the Saturn
Cycling Team and the U.S. Olympic Team for Cycling.
