American Honda Shatters Sales Records

TORRANCE, Calif. - Total American Honda 1999 sales of 1,076,893 were up 6.7 percent from 1998, setting a new all-time record and shattering numerous other marks in the process, according to sales figures released today by American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

Honda Division sales for 1999 set a new record of 958,887, up 6.6 percent from 1998. Honda Division set sales records in every month of the year. Acura Division sales of 118,006 were up 6.9 percent as the Division recorded it best year since 1992.

Other records set during 1999 include: Total light-truck sales of 222,223, up 49 percent; Odyssey minivan sales of 77,801, up 273.7 percent CR-V sport utility sales of 120,754, up 20.1 percent Acura TL sales of 56,556 up 77.4 percent.

American Honda Sales Shatter Records

Total sales of vehicles assembled in North America reached 803,270, boosted by increased Odyssey and Acura TL production, were up 3 percent from 1998's record. North American-assembled vehicles accounted for 75 percent of all vehicles sold by American Honda.

American Honda December sales also set a record of 89,172, up 6.2 percent from December 1998, as the company sold 23,937 light trucks, up 68.8 percent; its best month ever for that segment.

Honda Division December sales of 79,138 increased 5.3 percent and have now set a new month-to-month record for 33 consecutive months. The Odyssey minivan set a new one-month sales record of 11,752 and CR-V sales set a new December record of 10,280.

Acura Division December sales of 10,034 were up 14.3 percent from December 1998 as TL sales of 5,583 rose 35 percent, setting a new December mark.
