In cooperation with the Center for Auto Safety, Jack Gillis, noted consumer advocate, auto
safety expert and author of the "Ultimate Car Book", analyzes hundreds of
thousands of auto complaints, dating back to 1976, and compiles the information in a
comprehensive index. Consumers can then refer to the book when making car-purchasing
decisions. Jack Gillis congratulated Oldsmobile for "...offering the American car
buyer a vehicle that truly meets the needs of today's discriminating buyer."
The Silhouette's safety features include: a "safety cage" body structure that
entails a series of structural hoops providing strength, sturdy side-door beams in both
the front and side doors, standard four-wheel antilock brakes and traction control (GLS
and Premiere), daytime running lamps, standard side-impact air bags and reduced-force
frontal air bags. Pretensioners in the front- seat belts, designed to reduce belt slack
when the air bags are deployed, sliding-door child-security locks, a rear liftgate double
latch and an automatic safety stop on the available power sliding door also are included
in the Silhouette safety features.
