DaimlerChrysler: 2001 Jeep Wrangler
A new feature for 2001 that is sure to pleasure Jeep Wrangler owners is a reengineered soft-top for enhanced quietness and increased durability. The new four-ply soft-top provides a two-decibel reduction in noise for refined passenger comfort. Available for the first time with the fun-to-drive Wrangler soft-top are deep tint windows. Underneath Wrangler's signature body-on-frame construction, the Quadra-Coil suspension gives it better off-highway capability than any of its predecessors or competitors. For even more ruggedness, the 2001 Wrangler has a standard thicker fuel tank skid plate with increased rigidity. In addition, the 2001 Wrangler offers a new injection molded Add-a-Trunk for enhanced versatility. The Add-a-Trunk top has a detente in the up position for use with objects too large to fit inside. The underside of this lid has drink holders with a tray that can be used when the rear seatback is tipped forward. Thumbscrews in the side of the Add-a-Trunk make it possible to slide it forward in the vehicle or completely remove it for even more flexibility. Jeep Wrangler offers standard child seat tether anchorages for 2001. These anchor points in the rear floor pan add an important element of safety for child seats. Other safety features standard on Wrangler include next-generation air bags*, a redesigned on/off switch for the front passenger air bag, self-adjusting low tension three-point seat belts and height-adjustable shoulder belts. For 2001, Wrangler is offered in three new exterior colors - Steel Blue Pearl Coat, Amber Fire Pearl Coat and Sienna Pearl Coat-and two new interior materials - Sutton Vinyl and Nomad Cloth. The Jeep Wrangler lineup for 2001 continues to offer SE, Sport and Sahara models in soft-top and hard-top versions. A dual top package-hard top and soft top in matching colors - with full steel doors including roll-up windows is available on all models. Jeep Wrangler SE comes standard equipped with the 2.5-liter PowerTech four-cylinder engine. The optional 4.0-liter PowerTech I-6 engine, available on Sport and Sahara models, comes standard with the NVG 3550 five-speed manual transmission. A three-speed automatic transmission is available. Jeep Wrangler is available in right-hand drive versions for markets outside North America. It is built at DaimlerChrysler's Toledo assembly plant in Ohio. All pictures: Chrysler
