Volkswagen Olympic Fleet launched

As the exclusive Automobile Partner of the 2008 Olympic Games, Volkswagen Group China, together with its joint ventures Shanghai Volkswagen and FAW Volkswagen, officially handed over 5,000 vehicles to the Beijing Organizing Committee of the 2008 Olympic Games (BOCOG).

The vehicles provide logistic support for the organizers, athletes, media and Olympic guests. Volkswagen technicians and service crews will supply round-the-clock support for the fleet, which comprises low-consumption, low-emission vehicles and has been christened the “Green Fleet”. The Magotan 2.0 TDI, Sagitar 1.4 TSI, Touran EcoFuel, Tiguan 2.0 TDI and Magotan BlueMotion models that make up the fleet were recently presented to the Main Press Center of the Beijing Olympic Games.

Dr. Zhang Suixin, Executive Vice President and Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Group China, said at the handover ceremony: “Our goal as a sponsor of the 2008 Olympic Games in China is to be a reliable and trustworthy partner for all participants. Today, we are handing over 5,000 official Olympic vehicles to the BOCOG in recognition of the Olympic ideals of dialog and international understanding. We will do our utmost to support the BOCOG with logistic and transportation services for officials, athletes and guests during the Games.”

The Volkswagen Green Fleet is based at the Main Press Center to provide shuttle services. Picking up the “Green Olympics” and “High-Tech Olympics” ideas of these Games, the fleet is equipped with Volkswagen Group state-of-the-art powertrain technology and features the most innovative engines and gearboxes. These vehicles ideally combine powerful performance with low fuel consumption and low CO2 emissions and epitomize the Volkswagen Group’s most advanced technologies. “Volkswagen in China is synonymous with corporate social responsibility, environmental protection and technological innovation,” Christian Koch, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Group China, commented as the vehicles were officially handed over.
