This will enable the three brands to improve management and growth of their parts businesses. However, the prime beneficiaries of the new depot will be Ford, Land Rover and Volvo customers who will benefit from prices for their particular branded parts being the same throughout Russia, much shorter delivery times across the country, significantly reduced service and repair times, and an extended range of car accessories. Until today, Ford parts have been imported into Russia by the dealers involving additional transportation time and customs requirements. Mark Fields said: "This is the right strategic move for Ford to take its presence to a new level in Russia. We are already well established as an importer and manufacturer in Russia, with many years experience in the market. However, we want to grow our business in this important market, and now is the right time to open the Ford National Parts Distribution Centre. It is also a prime example of the pan-brand strength Ford Motor Company brings to the Russian market". An investment of $10.8 million was made to open the Ford National Parts Distribution Centre, including development and project expenses and the initial parts inventory. It will stock more than 11,000 of the most commonly required Ford and Land Rover parts for vehicle servicing. When fully operational, Volvo will handle an additional 9,000 parts in the new depot. Ford Motor Company's transport partners will be Schenker (responsible for the transportation of parts from Cologne to the Ford National Parts Distribution Centre) and Tablogix (who will handle the subsequent delivery of parts to Ford, Land Rover and Volvo dealers within Russia). The customs broker, STS, was selected to ensure speedy customs clearance for the imported parts. The Ford National Parts Distribution Centre is well situated, being close to the main motorways of MKAD, Novoryazanskoe and Kashirskoe. The depot occupies 1.5 hectares, with the facilities covering 9,700 square metres. The launch of the new Parts Distribution Centre generates additional employment in the district. (April 11, 2005)
