Wolfsburg - One year after being launched, Germany's most popular Volkswagen Touran is a 1.9 Turbodiesel with a power output of 74 kW / 100 bhp and a 6-speed manual gearbox. It has a "reflex silver metallic" finish and its total of seven seats are in anthracite. Like nearly every second Touran, it is ordered with the "Trendline" equipment package and in two thirds of all cases, with the "Climatronic" air conditioning system (2-zone climate control, temperature and ventilation can be controlled separately for the driver and front passenger).

More than a third of buyers opts for a third row of seats (seats that fold away in the vehicle floor) in additon to the already generous standard features. The eight two-way speakers in the front and the rear as well as the winter package with heated front seats, heated windscreen washer jets and headlight washer system are also very popular.

The colour "reflex silver metallic" is at the top of the popularity scale just in front of "platinum grey metallic" and "black magic pearl effect". The "Trendline" equipment package is closely followed by the Touran "Highline".Regarding engines, the 1.9 and 2.0 TDI models are in the lead. Both diesel engines are available with the Volkswagen direct shift gearbox (DSG).

After its launch in March 2003, the Touran quickly became the bestseller in the MPV segment. The number of vehicles registered in January and February 2004 prove that, with now 22,6 percent market share, the Touran is clearly the leading vehicle in its class (source: Federal Motor Vehicle Office). The winner of numerous benchmark tests also has an excellent image in the eyes of the consumers: according to a study by the prestigious AC Nielsen research institute, Volkswagen received a top brand value of 94 percent in an image study in the minibus and MPV segment.
