BANGKOK, Thailand - Ford
Motor Company has announced the appointment of Michael J. McCarney as the
new president for its ASEAN Operations, to be based in Bangkok, with
immediate effect.
McCarney will be responsible
for Ford's operations throughout the ASEAN region that includes Indonesia,
Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines.
Previously, he was director,
Truck Manufacturing Operations, Vehicle Operations in Michigan. Prior to
that, McCarney was plant manager at the Wayne Integrated Stamping and
Assembly Plant, where he was responsible for overseeing some 15,000
employees and the production of over a million vehicles a year. |
|
McCarney has extensive
automotive experience having been with Ford Motor Company for thirty years
since joining Ford of Canada in March 1974. He has since held various
positions within Vehicle Operations in North America, including plant
manager positions at the Ontario Truck Assembly and Michigan Truck
Assembly, in addition to several short assignments with Ford of Europe.
He was also involved in the
Ford-Harley Davidson alliance that led to the highly successful Harley
Davidson F-150.
"I am motivated by this
new assignment, particularly since ASEAN and the greater Asia-Pacific
region represents the future of the automotive industry," said
McCarney. Industry forecasts indicate that, at present rate of growth, the
Asia automotive market will overtake those of North America and Europe by
2010. Asia is expected to contribute over 60% of global industry growth
through the end of the decade, led by China, ASEAN and India.

He continued, "I believe
these are exciting times for Ford in Asia, and I am prepared for the many
challenges that lie ahead of us, but I am also confident that we can
achieve our long-term goals and that the rewards down the road will be
generous."
McCarney succeeds John Parker
who has been appointed executive vice president, Mazda Motor Corporation.
McCarney, a Canadian citizen, has a bachelor's degree in industrial
management. He is married with four children and has five grandchildren.
