Wolfsburg - For its three models Golf, New Beetle and Passat, Volkswagen has received the Total Quality Award for 2002 on the North American market. The Bora, which is particularly successful in the USA where it is sold as the Jetta, gained a outstanding second place in its category. This award is presented annually by the US "Strategic Vision” marketing institute of San Diego, California. The results are based on a complex customer satisfaction survey which questions no fewer than 47,000 drivers about their experience with the new cars they have bought. On the basis of this Total Quality Award, Volkswagen is clearly once again the most significant European make on the American market. In addition, the company took first place in the "Best Full-line supplier” category. The background to this is that the "Total Quality Index” used for calculating the award rankings not only registers the customers' experience with their new cars but also the level of service provided by the manufacturers' sales organisations. All three award-winning Volkswagen models gained particularly high praise from new-car purchasers for their good road behaviour and high standards of safety. Volkswagen's product design is rated equally highly: in each of their categories (Small Car: Golf; Small Specialty Coupe: New Beetle; Mid-size Car: Passat) the three Volkswagens took the "Total Quality Award” for the second time in succession.
