Polo awarded "red dot: best of the best" international design prize

The winners are chosen annually in eleven categories by Germany's North Rhine-Westphalia Design Centre. This competition is one of the largest of its kind - a jury consisting of international experts looked at about 4,000 products this year. In the "Public Space and Traffic" category the Polo, together with a luxury open sports car, was the only car to be honoured with the top "red dot award" this year. Hartmut Warkuß, Volkswagen's Head of Design, commented: "The Polo has timeless outlines; it makes deliberately emotive statements, for instance at the front end with its typical Volkswagen look. Its sharply styled rear end and extremely short body overhangs give it dynamic qualities and add to a level of functional perfection that satisfies all the demands made of a modern compact car." Since the Polo was launched in November 2001, not only the body styling but also the design of the interior has been repeatedly praised. Together with the high-quality materials that are used, the Polo clearly sets new standards in this area. Such design quality evidently appeals to the public as well as to the experts, as the registration statistics confirm: in Germany, its home country, the Polo is the leader among the compact models.
