BMW Group Reports Best First Half Ever

  • Year-to-Date Sales up 16 Percent;
  • June Sales Up 10 Percent

WOODCLIFF LAKE, NEW JERSEY - The BMW Group (BMW and MINI brands combined) continued to set sales records, reporting the best first-half ever in the U.S. with 124,475 vehicles and a 16 percent increase over the same period a year ago. The BMW Group also recorded June sales of 22,465 vehicles, up 10 percent over the 20,250 reported a year ago. It was the best June sales month ever recorded in the U.S.

BMW Brand

BMW of North America, LLC reported year-to-date sales of 117,736, a jump of 10 percent over the 107,257 vehicles sold in the first half of 2001. The company also reported June sales of 19,868, down 2 percent over the 20,250 in the same month in 2001.

BMW Automobile Sales

Year-to-date, automobile sales were up 8.4 percent, with sales of 96,038 compared to the 88,574 cars reported in June 2001. BMW also reported June automobile sales of 15,999, down 6 percent from the 17,054 cars sold in the same month a year ago.

BMW Sports Activity Vehicle Sales

Year-to-date sales of BMW's X5 Sports Activity Vehicles increased 16 percent, with 21,698 vehicles reported compared to 18,683 in the first half of 2001. Monthly SAV sales were up 21 percent, to 3,869 vehicles compared to the 3,196 reported last year.

BMW Certified Pre-owned Vehicles Sales

Sales of BMW's Certified Pre-owned vehicles skyrocketed, with a 51 percent increase in year-to-date sales of 28,977 compared to 19,238 a year ago. June sales were up 48 percent, to 4,900 versus 3,304 reported a year ago.

MINI Automobiles

The company reported sales of 1,432 MINI Coopers and 1,165 MINI Cooper S' in June for a total of 2,597. Year-to-date, the company reported sales of 4,990 MINI Coopers and 1,749 MINI Cooper S' for combined sales of 6,739. MINI automobiles went on sale March 22, marking the return of the MINI brand to the US for the first time in 35 years.
