Honda Selects IMPCO to Co-Develop Multi-Fuel Engines

  • The power generation market projected to exceed $16 billion by 2004
  • Honda to widen development project to include more engines with IMPCO gaseous fuel systems
  • Honda is a major manufacturer of small engines with production exceeding 4 million units per year

CERRITOS, Calif. - IMPCO Technologies, Inc. announced that it has finalized discussions with Honda Engines to co-develop and supply alternate fuel systems for Honda's line of general purpose engines sold worldwide.  In addition, American Honda Motor, Co., Inc. has agreed to utilize IMPCO to design and supply gaseous fuel systems for Honda engines sold specifically in the United States.

Honda Engine has also requested IMPCO to study the advantages of final production assembly of the alternate fuel system onto Honda engines at IMPCO's Cerritos CA, facility.  Honda produces more than 3 million general-purpose engines each year for worldwide distribution.

"Honda is an exceptional organization with the ability to clearly see the long term potential of clean-burning alternate fuel systems like IMPCO," said Mr. Robert Stemmler, Chairman and CEO of IMPCO Technologies.  "Trends in the market point towards increased public awareness and desire for cleaner, more reliable fuel solutions and portable back-up power generators.  Alternate fuels such as propane and natural gas offer those solutions today. "Residential power generation in the 1-10 kW range is growing at great rates and is projected to exceed $16 billion by 2004 as the need for more reliable sources of power become evident with blackouts and shortages, and where self-sufficiency with respect to household electricity grows more popular. Gaseous fuel like LPG and natural gas lend themselves very well to long-term storage as they will not spoil or degrade like gasoline and diesel fuels," added, Mr. Robert Stemmler.
