Hayes Lemmerz Announces Plans to Close Petersburg Facility NORTHVILLE, Mich. - Hayes Lemmerz International, Inc. announced plans to permanently close its facility in Petersburg, Michigan before the end of this year. The decision to close the plant in Petersburg was based on changing market requirements and an effort to drive down costs and increase efficiency by consolidating manufacturing capacity. The plant currently employs approximately 150 people, including hourly and salaried staff, who manufacture polymer intake manifolds for automotive customers, for use in domestically produced light vehicles. "The decision to close the Petersburg facility was an extremely difficult one for us," said Ron Cucuz, Chief Executive Officer of Hayes Lemmerz. "It is never an easy decision, but the need to remain competitive in a very demanding and rapidly evolving industry requires us to take these measures." "We will work to assist our people affected by the closure," added Cucuz. (July 12, 2001) [Homepage] [
