Land Rover Displays 2002 Discovery Series II Kalahari, 'Tomb Raider' Defender and Upcoming Freelander At 2001 New York International Automobile Show Upcoming Land Rover Models Converge on Groundbreaking New Display NEW YORK - The urban landscape of New York City is an unlikely place to launch a series of vehicles designed for extreme off-road driving. But Land Rover North America will do just that when it premieres the first of its all-new "Kalahari" vehicle series at this year's New York International Automobile Show. The 2002 Land Rover Discovery Series II Kalahari, which goes on sale in October of this year, will be seen on a brand- new Land Rover auto show display that will bring the world's extreme weather conditions to the Jacob Javits Convention Center. Land Rover's innovative exhibit features three "environments" that represent the extreme parts of the world in which Land Rover vehicles may be found including desert, jungle and mountain regions. Each of the Land Rover display's environments will expose auto show visitors to the respective climates of these regions. Visitors will be subjected to actual heat, humidity, cold and wind as part of this exciting new display. 2002 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SERIES II KALAHARI Kalahari is the name chosen for an all-new, specialty line of heavy-duty, off-road Land Rover vehicles. Beginning with the 2002 Discovery Series II Kalahari, which makes its world debut at the New York auto show, the Kalahari series will eventually grow to include versions of all Land Rover models. LAND ROVER "TOMB RAIDER" DEFENDER Land Rover's "Tomb Raider" Defender is making its U.S. debut at the New York auto show following a world premiere at the Geneva International Auto Show in Feb. 2001. It is featured prominently in the upcoming Paramount Pictures live-action adventure movie "Tomb Raider," which opens in the U.S. on June 15 and stars Academy Award(R) winner Angelina Jolie as heroine Lara Croft. LAND ROVER FREELANDER KENSINGTON CONCEPT Freelander, the newest model in the Land Rover stable, is coming to the U.S. during the fourth quarter of this year. The Freelander Kensington concept shown at the New York auto show gives the upcoming Land Rover Freelander model a very special, premium look. Freelander is a small, premium sport-utility vehicle built for enthusiasts. It will have a base MSRP below $30,000 when it goes on sale in North America late this year. (April 10, 2001) [Homepage] [
