Key Member Of Cadillac's Executive Staff Dies Of Cancer

DETROIT, Mich. - Peter R. Levin, director of brand development for General Motors' Cadillac Motor Car Division, died Monday, Dec. 20, of cancer. He was 57.

"Peter helped lay the foundation for Cadillac's 'art and science' strategy, and his fingerprints are all over the Evoq concept roadster, which conveys the form and substance of what General Motors' premiere brand has to offer," said John Smith, Cadillac General Manager.

As director of brand development, Levin, was responsible for strategic marketing for the Cadillac Brand, cross-Cadillac carline product strategy, global strategy and marketing research. Levin's General Motors career included assignments in New York with the Overseas Headquarters Group in Product Planning in New York, the GM Corporate Planning Group in Detroit and GM Europe where he worked on the Opel brand. He was assigned to Adam Opel for six years as marketing planning manager for GM Italia in Rome, Italy. Since joining Cadillac in 1985, Levin has held the positions of director of special marketing projects, director of merchandising and director of advertising. Levin received recognition from Advertising Age as one of the "Marketing 100" for his work on the 1992 Seville marketing program.

Levin began his career with International Assignments for SKIL Corporation and then joined Warner Lambert in New Jersey in brand management assignments in their Consumer Package Goods Division. He received his bachelor's degree from Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., and his MBA from Thunderbird Graduate School for International Management in Phoenix, Arizona. Levin was involved in many civic and charitable organizations. He was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Detroit Historical Society and the Juvenile Diabetes Association, as well as a member of the Trustee Committee for the Detroit Institute of Arts. He is survived by his wife Carolyn and his daughters Jennifer and Brittany. (Dec. 21, 1999)
