1997 Mercedes Benz opened the new plant in Tuscaloosa and launched the Mercedes Benz U.S. International (MBUSI):

• Number of employees:  1,300

• Length of assembly line when extended: 1.2 Kilometers

• Maximum daily vehicle output when in full production:  270 Vehicles

• Assembly time from start to finish: 10.5 hours

• Square footage of plant:  One million square feet

• Factory Output per year: Max 70,000 (1999 : 80.000); per day: Max 270

• Total number of parts on vehicle:  Approximately 14,000
