DaimlerChrysler : 2001 PT Cruiser

PT Cruiser Concept

Using the design philosophy of "form follows function," the two-door Chrysler Pronto Cruizer, introduced in Geneva in 1998, was an exploration of overall vehicle architecture. Pronto Cruizer is a unique combination of American spirit and passion for automobiles with efficient packaging for both passengers and cargo.

Further exploring the use of different materials and technologies, Chrysler Pronto Cruizer AWD, which made its debut at the 1999 North American International Auto Show, is a step in the concept-to-reality process.

The Chrysler Pronto Cruizer AWD features agate leather seats and door trim panels, soft roll-back top, and color keyed instrument panel that matches its Aztec Yellow exterior color. Additionally, the Chrysler Pronto Cruizer AWD features a unique all-wheel-drive system and rear suspension.

It is this spirit of taking on and succeeding at new challenges that led DaimlerChrysler's Small Car Platform Team in Auburn Hills, Michigan to create the Chrysler PT Cruiser for both the North American and international markets.

Similar to other segment-busting vehicles, Chrysler PT Cruiser anticipates the needs of owners by understanding emerging trends in the ways people use their vehicles.

The prefix "PT," meaning "personal transportation," reflects PT Cruiser's flexibility and versatility for each individual owner.

For North America, the front-wheel drive Chrysler PT Cruiser will be powered by a new 2.4-liter, DOHC 16-valve engine available with an automatic or manual transmission. Powertrain options for international markets include the a smaller displacement gasoline engine and a diesel engine.
