Cadillac Ciel Concept Makes
European Premiere At Frankfurt IAA
Zürich – Cadillac’s stunning Ciel
concept car will make its European premiere at the press days of
next month’s Frankfurt International Motor Show. This elegant,
four-door convertible – the name, means sky in French – melds
high-tech features with traditional hand-turned luxury,
symbolizing Cadillac tradition for bold design on a grand scale.
It wowed crowds after being
unveiled last week at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours
D’Elegance in California and will be a major attraction on the
Cadillac stand in Frankfurt.
The Ciel is a sumptuous
celebration of the enjoyment of open-top motoring and
demonstrates how Cadillac’s Art & Science design philosophy can
be applied to top-of-the-line, luxury vehicles.
Thematic features include
rear-hinged, rear doors for ease of access; extensive
hand-turned aluminum, solid olive wood paneling; elegant
chronograph-inspired instrumentation; personal connectivity
portals for all passengers, and the provision of pull-out,
cashmere lap blankets. The sumptuous leather seats are heated
and ventilated, and equipped with a drawer containing sun
lotion, sun glasses and towels, with aromatherapy provided from
the rear armrest.
Riding on 22-inch, nickel-plated
wheels braked by carbon ceramic discs, the Ciel is exceptionally
spacious with a wheelbase 305 mm longer than the current CTS
model. Propulsion comes from a 317 kW/425 hp, twin-turbocharged
version of the CTS’s 3.6-liter V6 engine, teamed with all-wheel
drive and a hybrid system using lithium-ion battery technology.
In addition, Cadillac will exhibit
its 2012 European product portfolio. All-new products on display
will include the Escalade Hybrid Platinum Edition and the CTS-V
Sport Wagon, supplementing the V-Series Coupe and Sedan.
Additional updated models on display will be the SRX (with
improved drive characteristics and torque availability) and the
CTS range. Cadillac’s CTS luxury Sedan, Coupe and Sport Wagon
now feature a front end styling refresh, an upgraded V6 engine
and now offer a new Touring Edition for the 2012 model year.
The CTS’s new 3.6L V6 uses a
lighter, more efficient design to give customers more power at
the same fuel consumption as the 3.6L V6 it replaces. The new
engine delivers 322 horsepower (237 kW) and 372 Nm of torque,
compared to 311 HP (229 kW) and 370 Nm of torque.
The CTS’s distinctive shield-shaped front
grille has been redesigned with new premium finishes that highlight the
intricacies of a new frame and mesh combination. The Wreath & Crest logo
also has sharper colors and raised ridges between the colors, giving it
a three-dimensional, jewel-like quality. The result provides the CTS
with a more refined appearance.
