Golf A7, Audi A4 to start production in FAW-VW

FAW Volkswagen may restart the production of Golf A7, a higher version of Golf A6 at its Changchun plant in near future.

Meanwhile, the next generation Audi A4, which will enter the European market this September, is expected to be assembled in China in the second half of this year, according to an FAW Volkswagen official.

FAW Volkswagen has suspended production of its Golf model when its sales proved unsuccessful in China’s auto market.

Moreover, due to the sluggish sales of VW Caddy and Bora hatchback models, FAW Volkswagen becomes very prudent in choosing the next A-class model. The to-be-launched Golf A7 will share the same platform with Sagitar and Magotan.

FAW Volkswagen is confident that the higher version of Golf will see an impressive growth after its launch.

The new version of Audi A4, which belongs to different segment of Audi B-class platform, features longer body and higher prices. FAW-VW hopes to recover its premium brand image by selling the new version of Audi A4. .

Volkswagen now runs two joint ventures in China with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp (SAIC) and First Automotive Works Corp (FAW). Shanghai Volkswagen produces Santana, Passat, Polo, Gol and Touran, while FAW Volkswagen produces Jetta, Bora, Golf, Sagitar, Audi A6 and A4.
