Ford Motor
Company was the first foreign auto manufacturer to open
its own assembly plant in Russia . The assembly plant in
St. Petersburg , which began production in July 2002, is
Ford's newest European manufacturing site for the Focus,
the top-selling vehicle for the Ford brand in Europe . It
is also the only Ford plant in the world that builds the
Focus in all four body styles: 3-door, 4-door, 5-door and
wagon versions. The plant employs 1,700 workers.
The Ford Focus
has been the best-selling car model among import brands
in Russia for three consecutive years, since 2003. In addition,
Ford is one of the top-selling foreign brands in Russia
. Sales through May 2006 were 30,200 units, an increase
of 90 percent from the first five months of 2005. Total
sales in 2005 were 60,600 units.
