Ernie Els to win the South African
Airways Open 2006 at the Humewood Golf Course in Port Elizabeth
Starting with Trevor Immelman,
South Africa, and Patrik Sjoland, Sweden, in today’s last flight
Ernie could improve his score by 7 during the round and finally
ended up with a -24. Under very windy conditions Trevor
Immelman, who played a 63 yesterday, just get 1 up today.

It all begun, when Trevor shot
over the green at hole #6, executed a solid bunker shot, but
missed the putt. At the same hole Ernie made a birdie and put
himself in front. On the second nine Trevor could manage 3
birdies, but Ernie took literally off. Ernie Els played a 65 and
won with –24, although he allowed himself a final boogie at the
18th hole. It all started for him at the 12th hole, where he
successful holed a long birdie put. "This was a real break for
me". Ernie said.

The third member of the flight was Patrik
Sjoland, who led after the first 2 rounds. He picked up heavily at the
second nine and finished with –20, improving his score by 5 today.
Position #4 is taken by Darren
Fichardt, England, who already yesterday started his follow up.
Today he shot a 68 and ended with –16, the unshared 4th place.
Two South Africans share the 5th
place, Retief Goosen and Louis Oosthuizen with the Englishman
Andrew Raitt. Gary Lockerbie and Lee Westwood share the 8th
position.

The South African Airways Open is finally
over. We saw great golf on an almost stormy course, which made even the
putting tricky. Price money started at 158,500 Euro for the first and
115,000 Euro for the second. Patrik Sjoland was already down at 69,100
Euro for the third.
