It was the second consecutive year that the Kalos received the honor. The KDPI, which was established five years ago, is compiled through interviews and an Internet poll of 20,000 consumers living in Korea's six largest cities, including Seoul. The Kalos was penned by Turin styling specialists Italdesign. Their founder and chairman, Giorgetto Giugiaro, said, "The Kalos has simple but powerful lines and thanks to its short overhangs it boasts particularly harmonious proportions. It just has that 'certain something'. One of the typical design features is the third side window, which makes the car look lighter, airier and longer." The Kalos is GM Daewoo's best-selling carline in Europe, accounting for 41 percent of sales in the first six months of this year. Erhard L. Spranger, Executive in Charge of GM Daewoo Europe, "The Kalos embodies everything our brand stands for. It is not just a great looking car. It is very well equipped and offers outstanding value for money." Chang-Yoon Park, a chief researcher at the KMA, said: "Even though many new competitive products have been introduced, the Kalos once again was noted for its shape, sensitivity and convenience in design. Specifically, consumers gave it high marks for individuality, trendiness and innovation." (July 07, 2004)
