One millionth vehicle leaves assembly line at FAW-Volkswagen
|
Wolfsburg - FAW-Volkswagen in
Changchun, People's Republic of China, celebrated a remarkable production
anniversary on 7 January. In the presence of Dr. Folker Weißgerber,
member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, the one millionth
vehicle, a red Golf, came off the assembly line at the plant.
In his address, the VW Board
member highlighted the company's positive development. Based on modern
technology, FAW-Volkswagen today produces large numbers of high-quality
vehicles. Under the very successful cooperation, both partners in the
joint venture have learnt from each other's strengths.
Dr. Folker Weißgerber drew
attention to the fact that the 500,000th vehicle only rolled off the
production line on 1 February 2002. In just under two years, FAW-Volkswagen
had doubled vehicle production in Changchun to 1,000,000 units.

With the introduction of the
Audi A4, the New Audi A6 and the fourth generation Golf, FAW-Volkswagen
reported vehicle sales of some 298,000 units in 2003. Today, FAW-Volkswagen
produces Jetta, Bora, Golf, Audi A4 and Audi A6 models for the Volkswagen
and Audi brands. These models rank among the best-selling vehicles for
corporate and private use and for taxis on the Chinese market.
To meet demand on the
fast-growing automotive market, construction of a second automobile plant
in Changchun began in July 2003. Once this second factory has been
completed, FAW-Volkswagen will be in a position to further expand its
product range.
In total, the Volkswagen
Group with its joint ventures in Changchun and Shanghai produced approx.
698,000 vehicles in 2003 and thus clearly continues to hold pole position
in China.
