Ford Mondeo CHONGQING, CHINA - A silver Mondeo 2.5 V6, Changan Ford's 50,000 vehicle rolled off the assembly line today in Chongqing. Since the production of its first car, a gold Fiesta, on 18 January, 2003 Changan Ford's output reached the 50,000 units milestone in only 18 months; outpacing the industry average (which is approximately 24 months) in China.
The success of Ford Mondeo is the key reason for this CAF achievement. The 2004 Ford Mondeo received overwhelming praise after its launch earlier this year. Cumulative sales volume exceeded 10,000 units by the third month. While since May 2004 many automakers have experienced declining sales - Mondeo managed to become the sales leaders in the 2.0L passenger car segment and one of the top three sales leaders in the mid-to-upper range car market. "Today's 50,000 vehicle milestone demonstrates our ability and desire to become a key player in the Chinese auto market," said Ron Tyack, President & CEO of Changan Ford at the ceremony held at the Changan Ford Chongqing plant, where the silver Mondeo was driven off the assembly line. Since its establishment, Changan Ford (a joint venture between Ford Motor Company and Changan Automobile Group in China) has demonstrated its strength in competing with key players in the market. The 50,000 vehicle is only one of the many achievements: It took Changan Ford only 14 months to complete the construction of its plant in Chongqing, versus industry average of about 24 months. In the first year of operation, Fiesta and Mondeo were launched. On 22 July, 2004 Changan Ford signed investment agreement for its second assembly plant in Nanjing. (July 28, 2004)
