Porsche to give three of its subsidiaries a new home

Construction work for new service centre in Bietigheim officially begins

Stuttgart/Bietigheim-Bissingen - The official start of the first phase of construction of the Porsche Service Centre in Bietigheim-Bissingen was marked today by the turning of the first soil by the mayor of Bietigheim Bissingen, Manfred List, the mayor of the Tamm municipality, Gerd Maisch, and the chairman of the board of directors of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking. As of mid 2003, Porsche Deutschland GmbH, Porsche Financial Services GmbH and Porsche Consulting GmbH with a combined total of 260 employees are to be rehoused in the modern office complex. Porsche is to invest 40 million DM in the construction project, which is situated to the south of the locality on the B 27. Until now, all three subsidiaries of Porsche AG have been located in Bietigheim-Bissingen or in Stuttgart-Weilimdorf in temporary office space.

In his speech Dr. Wiedeking stressed that the general growth trend which the company is experiencing should also apply to the services department: "I consider the Porsche Service Centre in Bietigheim-Bissingen as a further important step towards ensuring our competitiveness in the future. As we do not have the requisite means of expanding at our headquarters in Zuffenhausen, we decided to look for a site in the immediate vicinity. I would thereby like to look upon this as a definite confirmation of our loyalty to the Bietigheim-Bissingen location. Here, we can and want to continue to grow."

The mayor, Manfred List, stated that he considered Porsche's choice of location as a stroke of luck, as Bietigheim-Bissingen can only benefit from the positive image which the sports car manufacturer enjoys. He went on to say that he was certain that the attractive buildings would further enhance the overall visual impact of the town.

Gerd Maisch, mayor of Tamm, added that he was also looking forward to working in conjunction with the automobile manufacturer. In the past, Porsche has already located offices in direct proximity to his municipality; in Ludwigsburg and Bietigheim-Bissingen. As the site acquired by Porsche is situated in an industrial estate jointly developed by Bietigheim-Bissingen, Tamm is playing a direct role in a development project for the automobile manufacturer for the first time.

In the first phase of construction of the entire concept, a self-contained complex with a total surface area of approximately 6,700 square metres will be built. Alongside 5,700 square metres office space, facilities for an employee and company casino are also planned.

The approximately 35 metres high administrative tower of Porsche Deutschland GmbH is to have an exceptional architectural feel and look, which will complement the discreetly elegant style of the main building in its striking and dynamic form.

The young team of architects from Ravensburg, Dierig & Weber, are responsible for the design of the entire project. This firm's concept was chosen from a total of twelve in a competition including designs from well-known reputable architects. Alongside the design features referred to above, the jury was convinced in particular by the simple design, which can easily be transferred to any further phases of construction, where need arises.
