OnStar's Newest Batman Commercial To Debut On Academy Awards Show

TROY, MI - OnStar will air "Hot Date," the newest in its award-winning series of TV spots featuring the incredible Batmobile and OnStar's safety, security and information service, during the Academy Awards broadcast Sunday.

The ad highlights OnStar's newest service, Personal Calling. In the spot, Batman is on the road in Gotham City when the Penguin suddenly swoops down in a helicopter and attacks the Batmobile. While Batman fights off the advance, he places a hands-free call to longtime girlfriend Vicki Vale to warn her that he may be late for their dinner date. The Oscar broadcast airs Sunday on ABC, starting at 8 p.m.

OnStar Personal Calling is a nationwide wireless calling service that allows drivers to make and receive hands-free, voice-activated calls from their vehicles while keeping their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. OnStar Personal Calling requires no separate cellular contract or additional monthly access fee, no activation fee, and no equipment charges. It allows OnStar subscribers to purchase minutes as needed, with extended expirations so there is less chance of paying for minutes that don't get used.

OnStar Personal Calling is available now in the Northeast and North Central United States, and will roll out to the rest of the country in the next few months. Subscribers who drive 2001 OnStar-equipped vehicles have access to Personal Calling.

The new TV ad, created by Campbell-Ewald Advertising and directed by Vincent Ward, is part of an integrated campaign that comprises TV and print ads, as well as DC Comics animated comic strips on the Web. Sunday's TV spot ends in a cliffhanger that will be resolved in May in a Webisode at www.onstar.com. The Batman ad campaign has won several awards; most notably six Mobius Awards, a New York Festival Gold Medal, and a first place David Ogilvy Award for Consumer Durables.
