The New Vaneo mini-MPV from Mercedes-Benz Vaneo Photo: DaimlerChrysler
Stuttgart - With the market for mini-MPV’s likely to show strong growth in the coming years, the new Mercedes-Benz Vaneo from DaimlerChrysler seems to have arrived on the scene at an ideal time. Indeed, across Europe as a whole, the segment is forecast to expand from the 250,000 units recorded for 1998 to 960,000 units in 2004. "Despite a vehicle length of only 4.2 meters and all-round compact dimensions, the space-saving sandwich construction used for the Vaneo means it can either accommodate a lot of passengers and cargo or provide an unparalleled amount of space for luggage and/or equipment", says Dr. Rolf Bartke, head of the Mercedes-Benz Vans business unit. "The Vaneo has exceptionally high utility value for a very wide range of user groups". The vehicle offers the spaciousness of an MPV while taking up the same amount of space on the road as a compact saloon. From now on, young families, leisure-oriented couples and mixed users — (those who need a vehicle for work and home) will be able to choose a Mercedes-Benz that not only sets premium standards but is also tailored to their specific requirements. Indeed, with a choice between three different equipment lines — TREND, FAMILY and AMBIENTE — plus a range of innovative options, the Vaneo offers ample room for a wide range of individual specifications. Uncompromising monospace design With its monospace design, a low belt line with generously sized windows, and the two large sliding doors, the new compact van from Mercedes-Benz has its own distinctive look — despite a close technical affinity to the A-Class. At the same time, the high roof and one-box design exude confidence and control. All in all, the Vaneo is a vehicle with a big repertoire and a self-assured style. Market launch with three equipment lines and four engines When the Mercedes-Benz Vaneo goes on sale at the beginning of 2002, customers will be able to choose from three equipment lines TREND, FAMILY and AMBIENTE, and opt for one of three ultra-modern petrol or an economical diesel engine. Customers can opt for either five-speed manual — optionally available with an automatic clutch — or automatic transmission. A range of tailor-made special features — including specially designed child safety seats for the third seating row or a retractable floor panel for the cargo area — provide further innovative highlights. Mercedes-Benz Vaneo to be produced in Ludwigsfelde, Germany Production of the new Mercedes-Benz Vaneo will begin toward the end of this year at the Ludwigsfelde plant in Brandenburg, where the company has invested around 500 million on the very latest manufacturing equipment. While initial production plans anticipate an annual output of around 50,000 units, capacity at the plant near Berlin can be expanded to up to 70,000 vehicles a year. An overview of important dimensions:
The state-of-the-art Vaneo production line is initially conceived for a yearly capacity of around 50,000 units. However, the current layout would allow output to be increased to 70,000 units a year. (June 26, 2001) [Homepage] [
